About Us
Playground Engagement is a specialist school improvement service dedicated to helping UK primary schools create inclusive, purposeful and joyful playtimes — where every child can participate, belong and thrive.
Our Story
Playground Engagement was founded on a straightforward but powerful insight: that playtime is one of the most significant periods of the school day — yet it is consistently the most underdeveloped.
Working closely with primary schools across the UK, we saw the same patterns repeatedly. Behaviour incidents at playtime spilling into lessons. Children excluded from play, struggling to connect with peers. Lunchtime supervisors unsupported and under-resourced. And school leaders who knew something needed to change, but were not sure where to start.
We built Playground Engagement to change that — offering schools a structured, evidence-informed framework for continuous improvement that goes far beyond a one-off training day.
Our Philosophy
We believe that every child — regardless of ability, background or need — deserves a playtime experience that is safe, inclusive and genuinely engaging. This is not just an aspiration. It is an achievable reality for every school.
01
We treat playtime with the same rigour and intentionality as any other part of the school day. When playtime improves, the whole school improves.
02
A single training day does not transform a school. We work alongside schools over time, embedding a culture of continuous reflection and improvement.
03
Our role is to provide the framework, tools and expertise. Schools provide the knowledge of their community. Together, we create something that truly fits.
"Playtime is not a gap between the real work of school. It is some of the most important work of all."

What We Stand For
Every child deserves to participate fully in school life. We design approaches that remove barriers and ensure no child is left on the sidelines.
Strong peer relationships are the foundation of a happy, safe school. Our work builds the social skills and connections that last a lifetime.
Play is not a break from learning — it is learning. We help schools harness the power of structured, purposeful play to develop the whole child.
We believe in building capacity within schools, not dependency on external support. Our goal is to leave schools stronger and more confident.
Children who are happy, engaged and emotionally well are better learners. Joy is not a luxury — it is a school improvement priority.
Lasting change requires sustained effort. We work alongside schools over time, embedding a culture of reflection, evaluation and growth.
Who We Work With
We work with the people who have the vision and responsibility to make whole-school change happen. Whether you are a Headteacher looking to reduce behaviour incidents, a SENDCO working to improve inclusion, or a Pastoral Leader wanting to transform the social experience of your pupils — we have a pathway for you.
Our core focus. We work with maintained schools, academies and free schools across England and Wales.
We offer trust-wide programmes that build consistency and shared practice across multiple schools.
We collaborate with SIPs, local authorities and teaching school hubs to extend our reach and impact.
Our inclusive approach is designed to work for all children, including those with complex needs and SEND.
