Environment & Routine
Seat the child in a quieter area with minimal distractions
Calm and predictable lunchtime routine — same place, same adults where possible
Visual cues to signal transitions (now & next board / visual timetable)
Access to calm / sensory area if needed
Communication & Choice
Offer choices through objects / photos / symbol boards / communication aids
Use gentle encouragement, modelling and specific praise
Allow use of comfort items if needed
Play & Social Inclusion
Identify preferred activities and ensure they are available
Facilitate introductions to peer groups — do not force joining
